Hello,
Here we are (again); as the Covid-19 cases continues to surge, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has decided to reimpose the large-scale social restriction (PSBB) after previously easing it since June 4th. Essential businesses may continue to operate, but offices must return to working from home, starting this week. The PSBB was deemed most necessary considering Jakarta's healthcare sector that is now almost at full capacity, 77 percent for isolation rooms, and 83 percent for ICU.
Some of the restrictions, however, are more relaxed than the one imposed in April, when all places of worship had to be closed, malls and markets were allowed to open only for essential daily needs and nonessential companies had to get an Industrial Ministry permit to operate, the Jakarta Post reports. The PSBB will last for two weeks until Sept. 28, and most likely to be extended, especially if the number of cases is not going down.
Jakarta's satellite cities, on the other hand, including Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi that falls under West Java jurisdiction, are set to implement a 'micro-scale social restriction' or PSBM, which refers to limiting activities of smaller communities or areas that are considered as red zones (semi-lockdown). In these areas, the authorities would patrol the area to discourage and disperse people who gather, and business activities—even essential ones— are limited to only 6 pm.
Bali also is limiting activities in certain tourist attractions, including beaches, and other public places that have been linked to a surge in Covid-19 cases, as reported by merdeka.com The island, however, is still open for domestic tourists.
For many of us, this might seem like a setback. But unfortunately, it is a necessary setback. It is a harsh reminder of how prudent we need to be to #stayathome when we can, maintain physical distance, and to always wear face covering.
Stay safe and stay home!
Cheers,
